No crisis too big. No load too small.
After Hurricane Maria struck Puerto Rico on September 20, 2017, more than 90% of the island’s population had no power or electricity.
Businesses incurred devastating losses. Many were desperate to get inbound cargo, especially generators, construction materials and cleanup supplies. For loading and unloading, ocean carriers resorted to using their vessels to power cranes on the docks.
Eagle managed to get some Internet service through a neighboring business. Some of the San Juan team flew to Jacksonville ahead of the hurricane to gain full phone and Internet service at Eagle’s warehouse there. In addition, Eagle arranged in advance for $15,000 in cash which was sent by private plane from parent company, AJC Logistics, to insure that Eagle employees had cash during the crisis. As soon as roads were passable, Carmen Colon, Eagle’s San Juan manager, drove to her customers asking, “What do you need? How can we help?”
“Eagle went to extra lengths to help us work through a huge shortage of chassis and reefer units.”
One Eagle customer, a large food distributor, had to cancel inbound shipments because its warehouse was almost destroyed. “Eagle went to extra lengths to help us work through a huge shortage of chassis and refer units,” said the company’s CEO. “Eagle paid drivers double or more to make things happen, yet their rates to us didn’t go up.”
In January of 2020, Puerto Rico’s southern coastline experienced a magnitude 6.4 earthquake which devastated homes and businesses. Eagle donated two 53-foot containers full of essential supplies including bottled water, canned goods, batteries and more.
We are adapting to help you.
And now, we’re all dealing with a different kind of crisis: a pandemic. Supply chain managers across the globe are building reactive strategies to manage the “new normal”. To help our customers work through lesser order volumes with the same level of urgency, Eagle is now offering the flexibility of less-than-container load orders for inbound freight. Whether it’s a carton, a pallet, or a full container load, we are here to deliver to Puerto Rico.
